Cookie Policy
This policy explains what this website stores on your device, why, and how to change your mind. It covers cookies and equivalent technologies such as browser local storage, which the UK's Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) treat the same way.
The short version. This site sets no cookies at all. The only thing it stores is your own answer to the cookie question, kept on your device so we stop asking. We run no analytics, no advertising pixels and no tracking of any kind. If that ever changes, it will only happen after you press Accept — and this page will say so first.
1. What a cookie is
A cookie is a small file a website asks your browser to keep. Local storage does much the same job with a different mechanism. Both let a site remember something between page loads — a preference, a session, or in many cases, your behaviour across the web. We use exactly one, for the first of those reasons.
2. Categories we use
| Category | Do we use it? | Consent needed? |
|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary Makes the site work or records a choice you made |
Yes — one item, listed in section 3 | No. PECR exempts storage that is strictly necessary to provide a service you asked for. Recording your "no" so we don't nag you is exactly that. |
| Analytics Measures how the site is used |
No. None are currently in use | Yes — consent first, always. Nothing would load unless you pressed Accept. |
| Functional Extra features, embedded media |
No | Yes, if ever added |
| Marketing / advertising Tracks you to target ads |
No. We have no plans to | Yes, if ever added |
3. The full list
This is everything this website stores on your device. There is nothing else.
| Name | Provider | Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
hobsonlens_cookies |
Rebecca Hobson Ltd — this website (first party) | Local storage — not a cookie, and never sent to our server | Records whether you pressed Accept or Decline, so the banner stops appearing | Until you clear it (see section 5 or 6) |
If you press Decline, or simply ignore the banner, nothing else is ever stored.
4. Third parties
This site loads two things from other companies' servers. Neither sets any cookie and neither tracks you — but both necessarily see your IP address, because that is how a file gets delivered to your browser at all. We name them so you can check for yourself:
| Provider | What it delivers | Cookies set | Their policy |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cloudflare, Inc. (cdnjs) | The GSAP animation library used for the page's motion | None | cloudflare.com/privacypolicy |
| Indian Type Foundry (Fontshare) | The Clash Display and Satoshi typefaces | None | fontshare.com/privacy |
We do not use Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, the Meta Pixel, or any other advertising or analytics network on this site.
5. Change your mind
You can withdraw or change your choice at any time, right here. This clears the stored preference — the banner will then ask you again next time you visit the site.
Your current preference
Status: Checking…
Cleared. The banner will ask you again next time you open the site. Back to the site →
6. Managing cookies in your browser
You can also block or delete cookies and site data through your browser. Blocking everything will not break this site — there is nothing here that depends on it.
To clear what this site has stored specifically, use your browser's "site settings" or "clear site data" option for this domain.
7. Your data rights
How we handle personal data more broadly — including your rights of access, erasure and objection, and your right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office — is set out in our Privacy Policy.
8. Changes to this policy
If we ever add analytics or any other non-essential storage, we will update the tables above before switching it on, change the date at the top, and ask for your consent through the banner. We will not quietly start tracking you.
